Malware is any program or file that is intentionally harmful to computers, IoT devices, networks, apps, servers and other digital assets. Malware types include viruses, worms, Trojans, ransomware and spyware. Malware software can cause significant damage with the simple act of opening an infected attachment or clicking on a malicious link.
Malware can infect multiple systems by self-replicating when it is inserted into other programs. It can steal data, encrypt and delete sensitive data, alter or hijack computing functions, and monitor user activity.
Malware exploits at the expense of the user and/or organization. Its consequences put data security and privacy in jeopardy, and enterprises at risk of downtime, lost revenue, brand erosion and lost user productivity.
